Hard Places

Jul
27

This is our yard. For over a month, it has been over 100° nearly every day. Add to that a severe lack of rain, and the conditions get pretty serious. Our yard is brown, dry, and crispy. The flowers are “surviving" only with constant watering. Even our big shrubs are wilting and the ground is cracking. Some areas have taken the first steps to ration water.

Day after day, week after week, we keep hoping and praying for a drop in temperatures – even if it was just to the 90°s, but still there is no relief in sight. Today’s heat index is 105°, and the forecast shows triple digit temperatures for the next 10 days.

You might say this is a “hard place” for our state. And maybe, like me, you feel like you are in a hard place yourself right now. Perhaps you have a struggle, a testing, a silence that is harder on some days than on others, but is still always there. And it seems to go on…and on…and on.

Is your heart crying out with David in Psalm 13, where he says four times, “How long, Lord??”

I may see no relief in sight, but I know, just like with the weather, the “forecast” means nothing to God. He can completely change a circumstance in a moment. But even if He doesn’t…will I trust Him?

David didn’t end with questions. He finished with a declaration of his choice:
I WILL sing unto the LORD, because He has dealt bountifully with me.
Could he see the end? No. He could see God’s promises that he knew would be kept.

Be encouraged, friend. The hard places don’t last forever. But while you’re still in the middle, let this be your prayer – Be glorified in my hard place, O LORD, and may it cause me to love You more!

Peach Festival Pictures

Jul
20

Hey ya’ll – well, we did it again!! Made and sold out of 40 gallons of homemade ice cream by early afternoon! It definitely takes the whole family and a lot of team work to accomplish that. :)

Carinna, Maggie, and Abbie each entered the peach cook-off. The twins took first and second place in the teen category! Unfortunately, Ab’s entry didn’t place anything in the adult category, but we sure thought it should have. :)

The cook-off contestants

Ab's entry
Abbie’s Cinnamon Peach Dessert Sandwiches: Crunchy cinnamon sugar grilled toast with creamy peach filling. She made this recipe up on her own, and we didn’t have any complaints for being her taste testers!

Sorry, we didn’t get a close up of Maggie’s Peach French Toast – it was a delightful combination of French toast, peaches, and a crumbly caramel mixture, and took 2nd place!

Carinna's peach cookies
Carinna’s Peachy Cookies: No, these are not candied peaches! This unique recipe consists of two cookies “glued” together with a peach jelly filling (resembling a peach pit), and then rolled in various jello powders to create the rosy peach colors! Pretty cool, huh? Carinna took 1st place with this artistic creation.

Rebel, Okie, and Old Glory - a southern trio :)
Flag trio – “it’s a southern thang!” ;)

Our booth! Everybody had their own “job” and did excellent.

Ice cream freezers
We had 6 ice cream freezers constantly rotating. This year, we actually did a pretty good job of keeping up with the crowd!

We’ll say it again – people LOVE THIS STUFF!! We greatly admire the many customers who stood faithfully in line under a scorching, hot sun to get a cup of cold, peach ice cream.

We finished the day completely exhausted, but very happy! Meeting all the different people who came through was so much fun. We even met people from Texas who found our blog, read about the peach festival, and stopped by on their way through Oklahoma! :) Praise the Lord for His blessing on our successful day, and we pray that He was glorified.

Going to the rodeo that night was a great climax, but we’ll have to share that report with you in a couple days, so stay tuned!

Burns Family Studios has begun work on their next Christian feature film titled, Beyond the Mask! Check out this exciting Pre-Production trailer!

[vimeo width=”499″ height=”281″]http://vimeo.com/26461555[/vimeo]

Synopsis

This story is an action-fused historic adventure, set in the international turmoil of the mid 1770’s. Running for his life, an East India Company assassin buried his past in a quiet English village, assuming the mantle of an Anglican priest. But this disguise won’t last for long when a woman he loves and a war he no longer wants force him to confront the question of who he really is. In the face of a looming global conflict, he discovers for himself the meaning and source of true justification and freedom.

set locations, and more about the film!

Right now they need a little help raising some funds to build a major set for the project, and you can help by donating just $20!

About the Campaign

Right now, we are asking you to consider joining our team by voting for Beyond the Mask with a $20 donation. Through this Kickstarter campaign, we are planning to raise funding to purchase the materials we can’t scavenge for Beyond the Masks’ most important set – a full-scale, live-action 18th century cityscape. But, more importantly, through this campaign we are hoping to find a thousand voices to join with ours as we approach investors (the ‘men in hats’) about making a project like this come to life. By donating $20, you are voting for this project, saying, “Count me in. I’ll help spread the word; I want to see this become a reality.” This is the kind of thing the ‘men in hats’ need to see: there are over a thousand people who are excited about the project and are willing to lend a hand.
