I was looking for another challenge a few years back. I wanted to draw something with lots of wrinkles. I looked around for pictures and chose this one because
of how sad, lonely, and without hope she looked.

So many people smile when in front of a camera, or in front of other people…sometimes I wonder how many people are just putting on a front.
I know some can truly have joy in their trial, because they have hope!
But, so many don’t have the hope of eternal life! Of salvation in Christ Jesus!
They have no purpose to live for greater than themselves and the pleasures of
the world. That’s where we each start.

When I look at this picture it reminds me how God created the world perfect,
and how the consequences of our sin affect each and every one of us, aging, hurt, loneliness, pain, heartache, sadness, hopelessness…I’m reminded how Jesus took the wrath of the Father for our sin on Himself, of the price that He paid to ransom us, his enemies. How He became sin for us, so that we might have restored fellowship with God. There is hope, rest, peace, purpose…in CHRIST JESUS. It reminds me, go tell others the good news of the gospel!

I drew it with charcoal and graphite.
Here are some pictures I took of the progression.

Ephesians 2:12-14
“That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;”

Matthew 11:28
“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Guns, Airshow, and Possum grapes

A couple weeks ago, our cousins from out of state were in the area. So, we all went shooting. They provided the ammo and clays, and we brought the guns.
As usual, it was so much fun! : ) 20160930_154432IMG_7898

Gun season for deer is just around the corner,
so we also took the opportunity to sight in some rifles.

Heidi joined us for the fun too. : )

Grandpa still knows how to knock ‘em down.

While we were out shooting, some old airplanes flew over in formation. They were flying in for an airshow some of our family went to the next day.14517383_10154249263268110_8406116354922543762_n

With fall comes the annual possum grape picking expedition. Well, almost annual,
two years ago they were SO plentiful that we skipped picking them last year.
If you have never heard of possum grapes…here are a few posts we’ve done
in the past about them.  1, 2, and 3.

Why is that bush moving? Oh, that’s where Dad went… : )

The picking crew was a bit smaller this year than normal, but that’s the way it goes when people have to study for school and are very allergic to poison ivy. : /

Do we need the trailer or not?                      The answer would be yes. : )

We picked at the place where Grandpa used to live, and a little on the
county roads one evening. Then the next evening we went back out
to pick at the best possum grape vines around.

There’s nothing quite like being with your family out on a county road at dusk,
a cool fall wind blowing, standing up on an old rickety wooden ladder “balanced”
on the trailer, trying to miss the poison ivy while picking possum grapes.
It’s a special experience.

Then came the time consuming, purple finger staining, picking process. ; )
We got a total of three batches of jelly this year!

Hebrews 13:15
“By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually,
that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.”

Remember in what ever circumstance, (even itchy poison ivy) praise God continually!

End of Summer…

Happy Fall, Ya’ll!!!

Here’s the last of the pictures from our summer…Enjoy!

We were blessed to attend the Family Connections event in OKC! And also to have the team come to our house for supper, games, fellowship, and fun stories from living in Mongolia!

It’s always super fun to meet new families! We met this family through the blog and they drove all the way from Kansas!

Carinna has fun coming up with new things to do with “her kids”. You can’t go wrong with making flubber…unless you play with it in the kitchen and get it everywhere!

Dad and Mom took a Saturday go to an Amish auction together.

Carinna, has been working hard brush hogging and getting things ready for deer season. She loves it!

Our friend Barrie from Alaska came to visit for several days and helped Maggie and Carinna clear out shooting lanes at the deer stands.

We helped out with a project at Abbie’s school gathering items to take down to the flood victims in Louisiana.

We’ve had so much fun getting to babysit these 2 little guys quite a bit lately!

And loving every minute with little Eric!

“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.”
