::January recap::

Feb
04

One more year and Mom will have all “adult” children!…First things first, Benjamin turned 17 this last month! Happy Birthday Benjamin! You bring laughter and thoughtfulness wherever you are! We are so grateful you are in our family!

For his birthday dessert mom made him a Salted Caramel Chocolate Cake…Boy howdy, that was some GOOD stuff!
IMG_2470

Benjamin has a weakness (maybe it’s a strength) for fried chicken…and Maggie definitely makes the best around!
20170121_171302

Does this not make your mouth water just looking at it?! It was scrumptious!
20170121_172828

Carinna and Dad smoked some homemade summer sausage again this year!
It sure is yummy!
IMG_2466

Look who got to go to an OKC Thunder game!
20161209_181239

Eric is growing so fast, and his personality is showing more and more. Carinna has been helping Dustin and Hannah flip a house they bought. She comes home tired and just a little dirty. But you can’t beat good ‘ole hard work! : )
0102171616-010109171058-03

We sure love that Granny lives so close!
Granny will beat you in most games…but at least you get an ice cream bar. ; )
20161229_205123

Abbie and Maggie do a whole lot of this when they’re home!
IMG_244020170105_204829

It’s hard to get quality time with people when everyone is going different places and doing different things…so, sometimes to spend time with them you just have to go along. : D Like, Abbie went with Hannah and Evan to Hannah’s midwifery appointment for a check up on the baby boy who is due in one month!…
20161229_112402

…Carinna went thrift store shopping with Mom!…20170130_172222

…and Maggie went with Carinna to do some animal chores for some friends. Sometimes in a big family the best place to catch up with someone and talk about  life is in a vehicle!
It happens ALL the time around here…
"I thought so and so were back?  They are, but they’re still out in the car talking.” : D
20170113_14460320170107_151804

Abbie and Benjamin started a tradition several years back…if it snows enough they build a funny snowman. You can find their other one’s here and here. : D : D
Even though Abbie had tons of homework, she still made time to go have some fun with Benjamin. : )
IMG_2445

I think spring is a little early this year y’all!
IMG_2448

There’s almost always a warm front that comes in in January, and I didn’t hear anyone complaining about the 70-80° weather!
One week we had 0° with snow, several days later it was 80° with short sleeves! : D
20170106_170842IMG_243820170120_161730IMG_8414

More time in the car…on the way to a wedding up by the panhandle of Oklahoma.
20170128_175124

The sunset was gorgeous on the way back!!!
IMG_20170128_180056_672

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” Isaiah 26:3

Sometimes in the busyness of life it takes a whole lot of intentional actions to keep your mind stayed on Him and trust God! But if you will, you will have perfect peace in the middle of all the chaos.
And that pretty much sums up the Burnett’s first month of the year!

A Summary of Our Summer

Aug
15

IMG_0078

For Memorial Day Abbie, Carinna, Mom, and Granny took a trip down to Sterling to visit Granddad’s grave and put some flowers out.

IMG_0112

Our garden has done pretty well this year…canning green beans is always
a group effort!

IMG_0113IMG_0116IMG_0128IMG_0119

It’s been awhile since we’ve pickled green beans…and I’m not sure why we’ve waited so long! These things disappear in a blink!

IMG_0181

I guess fishing with a storm approaching just makes it more exciting. Granddad used to say that it’s best to go fish in the rain ‘cause the fish will all be under the dock trying to stay dry! =D

Working bees makes for a very long hot day! We are grateful for the hard work these two put in to maintain our apiaries!

This precious little guy was born in June just one week before his baby shower!

Maggie and Carinna celebrated their birthday with a 5 mile hike around the Sulphur park and springs!

IMG_1302IMG_1363

For 2 weeks in August we had 7 kids in their 20’s! Maybe we can take this picture every ten years as we all get old…Can’t you just imagine us all in our 80’s for 2 weeks right before John-Clay turns 90! =D

IMG_1364

We are so blessed to get to see these little guys a lot and we never get tired of them!!

IMG_1370IMG_1400IMG_1405DSC_0386IMG_1293

Abbie started LPN school and is already swamped with learning tons of new medical terms. She comes to the supper table from studying and tells us some of the most random strange terms and what they mean.

IMG_1177DSCN7770

We were blessed with 43 gallons of honey this year!! One taste of this liquid gold and it makes all that hard work worth it!

A Little Bit of This and That

May
24

Hello friends! Yep, we are still alive and living life!

Here’s a little update of our past month or so…it’s pretty random so just hang in there.

DSC_0042

We celebrated Grandpa’s 82nd birthday! Even though his memory is failing, he is still a sweet, grateful, kind man! We have been blessed to have him living with us for the past year and a half!

Mom’s gorgeous flower beds…

DSC_0090DSC_0087

We celebrated Mother’s day with our whole family! Abbie put together a wonderful meal and decorated the table with fresh flowers from our gardens!

Abbie’s co-workers threw her a very special going away party!

photo 1

This might be kind of confusing …a friend of a friend was competing in a qualifying round of a show we used to watch with Granddad called American Ninja Warrior and it was being filmed in front of the OKC capitol…so Caleb, Maggie, Abbie, and Benjamin got some free, hard to get tickets to attend! They had tons of fun and almost froze cause it was super windy!

photo 2photo 3

photo 5photo 4

Yes, it’s May, and that means tornadoes for Oklahoma! This was a normal “watch the weather cause there are severe storms across Oklahoma” kind of day! None of these pictures captured the actual tornadoes but they were impressive and very destructive! The worst we got was our electricity out for several hours. Many others didn’t fair so well.

Isaiah 43 – “But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour…”

The Festival!

Jul
23

Before I tell you how the festival went, we had a couple days of fun before the real deal. First of all, our friends, the Nakatsus, who are from Arizona are responsible for making most of this happen! Mr. N owns a Poppin’ Johnny ice-cream maker and also restored an identical one and gave it to Dad!!

Well the question was how to get it all the way down here… So being the amazing family they are, they drove 15 hours and brought the ice-cream makers to help us at the Peach Festival!!! They were a huge blessing ALL weekend… mixing ice-cream, washing dishes, playing games, helping cook, and being moral support! =D

So here goes…

DSC_0007

Thursday night was the rodeo parade so here’s our Model T riders. Don’t they look excited!

Thursday night was also the first night of the rodeo!

IMG_2077-2

Friday was prep day. We got a system down and mixed up the base for 75 gallons of ice-cream! That included 37 dozen eggs and 112.5 cups of sugar!

2015-07-17 09.10.50DSC_0042

Friday night we all went to the best hamburger joint in town… McGee’s Café!

DSC01295

Saturday morning started bright and early and what a whirlwind day it was!

These folks are our dedicated ice-cream lovers!

IMG_1387photo 4 copy

These my friends are the 5 gallon Poppin’ Johnny ice-cream makers. DSC_4149

75 gallons made and sold. For the past 10 years we make more ice-cream than the year before. And each year we sell out by 1:00. It never fails.

So next year… who knows, maybe 100 or 125 gallons!

Saturday night we had about 36 people at our house for supper and homemade ice-cream then we all went to the rodeo!

Except me(Charity), I was driving back to the house and store getting things we left behind.

It was a great weekend! Come see us next year!

This and That…

Jun
30

Aaaalrighty folks, time for an update!! June has been super fun and busy, and July is going to be even busier, but, let’s not get ahead of ourselves! Smile

peach
We are about to go peach crazy around here!

Normally the peaches have some kind of problem from either.. wind, hail, frost, heat, drought or bugs, but this year we’ve got to experience a new problem…
too much rain!!
See the lovely peach below?
Well, this year the majority of the peaches from the peach orchards have this fungus (brown rot) that rots the peach from the outside, to the inside.. and eventually the whole peach.
It makes for a very, um, interesting experience!
On average, a good, solid, WHOLE peach gives us about 1/2 cup.
Overall, we’d cut up about 700 peaches for 80 quarts.
But, since half of the peaches are half rotten.. it is taking a little longer.

Like I said, we’re about to go peach crazy! But we’re having fun, right gang?!

But it will all be worth it when we see people enjoying our homemade peach ice cream at the Peach Festival!

We were blessed to be able to attend the 100th anniversary of Broadway Baptist Church in Sand Springs Oklahoma!

Here’s a little history, Dad and Mom got married in ‘81.
Dad was the youth minister at Broadway from ‘80 to ‘83.
It was neat to meet the people that they impacted during their time there!! So many people were thrilled to see them!

The church had a “museum” area set up with old pictures and such.
It was really fun to see pictures that we’d never seen before of Dad and Mom!

Aren’t they cute!?
