LifeHouse Audio Dramas

LifeHouse Productions asked our family to review a couple of their new audio dramas a couple months ago! We love audio dramas and were interested to know what LifeHouse Productions would have to offer.

We found both of the stories they sent us, The Count of Monte Cristo and Hiding in Plain Sight, to be compelling and suspenseful dramatizations! Besides a few secondary actors who sounded a little unnatural at their acting, we were quite impressed with the quality of the sound effects, music, and their ability to tell a fast-paced, captivating story. If we were to compare them to Lamplighter Theatre (a 10), we would rate LifeHouse Productions as a 7!

You can listen to samples of these audio dramas, plus view their other recordings, at LifeHouse Productions.

The Count of Monte Cristo

Edmond Dantes is a newly promoted captain with a charming fiancé.  His future appears promising.  But, unknown to him, those he regards as friends are plotting a diabolical scheme to falsely accuse him of treason.

Now, a naïve promise made to his dying mentor may cost Edmond everything.  Can he escape imprisonment and foil the plans of his evil enemies?  Breathtaking action combines with romance and comedy to bring Alexandre Dumas’ stunning classic novel to life.

Hiding in Plain Sight

An amazing true story of fugitive slaves William and Ellen Craft and their astonishing 1848 journey toward freedom.

This suspenseful dramatization of the couple’s daring and ingenious plan to avoid detection during their dangerous escape by train and boat from Georgia to New England, and ultimately to Europe, offers a poignant and powerful look at historic events in nineteenth century America.

We definitely recommend that you check these dramas out. They would make great Christmas gifts for your siblings, your family, or friends!

“Many times the reading of a book has made the future of a man.”

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Having trouble finding captivating books that make a lasting difference in your life?

Look no further!

Lamplighter Publishing is a company that has proven to be a tremendous resource for our family! Their classic, hardbound books are packed full of riveting plots, endearing characters, and rich spiritual truths that will give you a renewed desire to follow Christ with all your heart.

Here are a few of our family’s favorites:

The Hidden Hand by E.D.E.N. Southworth

Unlike any story you’ve ever read, this book makes a great family read-aloud. But beware! It has been known to cause abnormal heart rates, loud exclamations of surprise, and very extended periods of reading. ;)

“Once you begin this novel, you will not be able to put it down! The Hidden Hand is strewn with mystery and suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. You will find yourself laughing aloud at some of Capitola’s antics. But don’t let her feisty, mischievous character and Old Hurricane’s cantankerous personality derail you from seeing the gracious providence of an all-wise God. His hidden hand can be seen at work in the most difficult situations.”

Prisoners of the Sea by Florence M. Kingsley

We were sure that The Hidden Hand would forever be our absolute favorite, until we read this incredible story! Let’s just say they tie at the top of our list. :) The mystery keeps twisting and turning all the way up to the last chapter!

“This suspenseful, historical novel takes place during the period when France’s King Louis XIV renounces the Edict of Nantes and declares Protestantism illegal. Tolerance is a thing of the past, and we find a band of Huguenot refugees bravely facing one narrow escape after another. But the peril of the tumultuous seas is the least of their worries‚–little do they know what terrors lie ahead! Even through the kidnapping and endless corruption, they stand firm and confident in the providence of God. Prisoners of the Sea gives little relief from its unyielding tension and suspense, but the jaw-dropping revelation doesn’t come until the very last chapter!”

House of Love by Elizabeth Cheney

Although we didn’t read this one together, it was scarcely finished by one member of the family before it was picked up by the next! “You’ve gotta read this!” After following pure-hearted Doris through her unfolding life journey, I personally came away with a deeper love for my Shepherd and a new perspective of what it means to “dwell in the house of the Lord”.

“Aurelia Wilde is cruelly selfish and downright miserable—a victim of her mother’s desperate attempts to place her delicate “prized possession” on an unreachable pedestal. But her glory is only surface deep. Aurelia’s complaining spirit is a stark contrast to that of her servant-girl, Doris, who knows that in spite of life’s troubles, she will one day “dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Her many talents and cheerful disposition cause her to be loved and appreciated, even by the notable residents of Waverly Manor. How jealousy swells within Aurelia’s vengeful mother! She’ll get even yet…”
